Blackberry Recipe #3 Tangy Blackberry BBQ Sauce

June 6, 2010

Homemade Blackberry BBQ Sauce is  so much better than store-bought stuff.  The whole family loved it even the dogs.  I think I could bottle the stuff and I’m not trying to brag, it was just dang good.  If you like your BBQ sauce a little sweet and tangy try this recipe it will be a hit at your next BBQ.

Tangy Blackberry BBQ Sauce

1/2 cup blackberry preserves

1  1/2 cups of ketchup

1/8 cup of  strawberry vinegar (red or balsamic will do also)

1/2 tsp. of dry powdered mustard

1/2 tsp. garlic salt

1 tsp. red pepper flakes

1 clove of garlic pressed

salt and pepper to taste

Making the blackberry preserves

4 cups blackberries

2 cups sugar

In medium sauce pan cook the berries and sugar until boils then simmer for about an hour  stirring often until thick.  Preserves typically have pieces of the fruit in it but I don’t like a ton of seeds so I blended my preserves and ran them through a mesh sieve to get rid of the seeds, it’s a matter of preference.

Making the BBQ sauce

It’s pretty simple just dump all the ingredients in a bowl and taste to see if it’s to your liking.  It makes 2 cups of BBQ sauce.

Grill your meat and slather on the sauce at the end of your cooking time.

This BBQ sauce would also be great for dipping fried chicken tenders in or for pork chops, brisket, and don’t forget the ribs.  Happy Grilling!
